Chainstay on 2001 Edge and Slayer Models Available For Upgrade at No Cost

May 9, 2002 - Vancouver, Canada - Following the partial failure of a chainstay on an early model 2001 Edge in the U.S., Rocky Mountain Bicycles today announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of early model 2001 Edge and Slayer full-suspension mountain bikes (sizes 16.5", 18.0" and 19.0").

Many 2001 Edge and Slayer models are not affected by this recall, because the Company equipped mid-to-late run models and sizes with a newly designed chainstay - featuring an increase in wall thickness. Chainstays stamped with an "S" on the bottom side of the yoke are not subject to this recall.

The applicable chainstays may partially fail only under the most extreme conditions such as high jumps and freeride-type riding. Riders will not experience a total failure. In case of a breakage, the rider may experience rear wheel conditions similar to those associated with a flat tire.

All customers seeking a replacement chainstay are encouraged to contact their local Rocky Mountain dealer for a complimentary upgrade available until August 1, 2002.

In keeping with Rocky Mountain Bicycles' commitment to exceptional hand crafted bicycles and advanced cycling solutions, the Company is pleased to provide a superior product replacement and apologizes for any inconvenience to its customers.
