Specialized has voluntarily recalled some 600+ C3 bicycles and frames from the market because of a potential defect which results in cracks in the frame around the headtube. So far there are no reports of frames having actually failed, and there have been no reported injuries.
Customers have complained of the cracks and the company's in house testing has shown differences between the prototype frames and the production frames. Specialized has hired an independent engineering firm to try to determine what is causing the problem. In the meantime, all production has ceased on the C3 frames and bicycles.
Customers will be given a full refund and a $200 certificate towards Specialized accessories. Anyone with one of these frames or bikes should call Specialized at 408 779 6229 to arrange for their refund.
